Two Men Arrested After Campaigning For Donald Trump In Uganda. See Photos

Police on Tuesday arrested two Ugandan youth for demonstrating at the United States embassy in Kampala in support of Donald Trump, the Republican candidate in the US presidential election due on November 8.

Those detained are Bigirwa Moses and Allan Kitonsa while their colleagues; Kizza Hakim, Kayondo Juma and Nsibuka Harunah escaped.

The five demonstrators, all members of Uganda Young Democrats (UYD), held placards inscribed with the words “vote Trump”.

The group arrived at the embassy at 9am, and began a surprise pro-Trump demonstration, a witnessed said. After taking embassy security by surprise, the youth started negotiations ostensibly to be allowed to campaign for Mr Trump from inside the diplomatic premises. They were denied access, but refused to budge.

This prompted Uganda police deployed to guard the US embassy to call for reinforcement, resulting in a crackdown that sent the demonstrators and journalists fleeing.

"Trump in his manifesto said he would deal with long-serving African presidents including President Museveni. We had to show our solidarity with him,” Hakim Kizza, one of the members of the group, is quoted as saying.
