Seven members of the Boko Haram insurgency group have been killed at Ghantsa area of Makwan Village in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa state by hunters fighting alongside Nigerian troops to flush out insurgents from the north-east, Nigeria.
Sources said the attack started by 12 mid-night on Saturday by members of the Boko Haram insurgents by setting houses on fire and shooting sporadically at Makwan village, few kilometres to Gulak town of Madagali council area.
The sources also said while they were busy with their operations, seven of the insurgents met their waterloo while some escaped with bullet wounds into the bush.
The sources added that, while the insurgents were busy burning down houses and looting properties belonging to the villagers, some Fulanis quickly alerted the hunters at their duty post about some killometres away from Ghantsa area of Makwan village adding that on hearing the news of the attack, the leader of the hunters group, Mallam Bukar Jimeta, immediately mobilized his men to the area.
The sources further explained that the hunters engaged the insurgents in a cross-fire for close to two hours between 10 pm to midnight on Saturday and they overpowered the insurgents resulting to the killing of seven, while one was caught alive with gun wounds and others escaped into the bush.
Also confirming the incident, Mallam Bukar Jimeta, the leader of the Hunters Association of Nigeria, said his men killed some members of Boko Haram but refused to speak further on the issue.
Also a senior military officer, under anonymity, confirmed that there was an attack at about 12 mid-night on Saturday to 1 am on Sunday, resulting to the killing of one member of the Boko Haram insurgency group.
He said some weapons and ammunitions were recovered from the insurgents and have been handed over to the appropriate authorities.
